10 more weeks?!

I had my 28 week appointment with the perinatologist today.

Both babies are doing fantastic - both are well over the 50th percentile (the perinatologist said they were in the 60th-80th percentile, depending on which measurement we're talking about). The boy is 3lbs 2oz and the girl is 3lbs 1oz, which means I'm currently carrying 6lbs and 3oz of baby! In due-date terms, the boy is measuring two weeks ahead and the girls is measuring one week ahead.

I told ya in an earlier post that I'm cookin' up 8lb twins and it looks like that may not be too far off the mark. When I joked with the perinatologist about it, she simply said "yes, you are." Heaven help me. I have 10 more weeks and potentially 2-5 more pounds for each baby to gain. Where are they going to fit? I'll have to stay up on my belly pictures because I'm sure they're going to start getting really fun (for you).

And now for some pictures.

Here is the boy's profile:

And here is the girl's profile:

It's hard to tell in this picture, but the ultrasound tech was able to get both babies' hearts in one shot. The hearts are located underneath the labeling on the picture. It was really neat to see both hearts beating in one shot.

Other fun happenings from this appointment:
- Apparently these little ones like to move - a lot. At my last appointment, both babies were head down. The girl is now bum down while the boy remained head down - different from two visits ago, when it was the other way around (boy bum down, girl head down). Also, the ultrasound tech had a hard time reading what she needed because they are both so active. We tried to get 3D pictures today, but these little ones would turn their head or put their hands in front of their face.
- We got to see the boy "drinking." It was super cool to see his little lips open and "drink."
- The girl is our resident gymnast. She had her legs over the top of her head. Comfy!
- The girl's kidney is looking good - no longer "big," but slightly funny shaped. The perinatologist suspects that the cord leading out of her kidney may be kinked and that was the cause of the enlargement last time and the funny shape this time.

I have another visit with the perinatologist in 4 weeks and I get to start my non-stress tests at that time. I have my 28 week visit with my OB on Friday and I'll have to post about that. It will be fun to see how big I'm "measuring."

t minus 3 months

i had my 25-week appointments this last week and i'm happy to report that everything is lookin' good!

- both babies are above the 50% percentile for weight. the boy is 1 lb 15 oz and the girl is 1 lb 12 oz - almost 2 lbs each! i'm glad i can account for 4 lbs of my weight gain...just not sure where to place the other 30 lbs. :) and on that note, i'm 25 weeks pregnant, measuring in at 31. hol-y cow!

- i don't have pregnancy diabetes, for which i am very grateful, and i don't have anemia, either. both very good things. and for the record, the glucose test is not that bad.

- the only cause for concern is that one of the girl's kidneys was slightly enlarged (measuring in at 4mm). the specialist isn't too concerned - we didn't see it at any previous visits and it's only one kidney, not both. (she thinks the little gal just had to pee.) dr. harrison seemed even less concerned. she told us that between 5-8mm is more concerning, and bigger than that even moreso. we'll check it out at my next visit in four weeks. hopefully my little one will have relieved herself by then. :)

- i have less than 3 months until we get to meet these little guys! if they haven't made their debut by february 11, i get to be induced. fun. i wonder if they'll make it that far...they're already on the big side and, let's face it, i'm not exactly a tall person with lots of space for babies, so maybe they'll get too uncomfortable in there. i'm perfectly happy with a debut at or after 36 weeks. :)

and there you have it.

in case you weren't sure what we were having, here's further proof. hahahaha.

every time we go to the hospital for my ultrasounds, the tech is like "now this one here is a boy...and this one here is a girl." this is probably because i see a different tech every visit (or maybe they check everytime regardless), but i think it's funny. i've known for nearly 2 and a half months that i'm having a boy and a girl. but hey, i get to see my kiddos a lot and i have sufficient proof of their sexes.

i'll leave you with my favorite picture from my last visit. the boy turned, so both babies are now in the same position (head down). (this means i may not need/get a c-section). i love this picture because it's my two peas in a pod! i feel like they're cuddling, or bonding, or something of that nature. so cute.

22 on the 22

on october 22 i hit the 22 week mark. both babies are alive and kickin. i got a pregnancy email today that said my "baby" should be sleeping something like 12 hours a day now and to pay attention when they start and stop kicking. well...i've decided my twins don't sleep. i feel them quite often (even at night) and the boy is much more active than the girl. i wonder if one kicks and keeps the other one up? tyler's already threatened to separate them if they don't start behaving. :)

at the request of many, i finally took another belly picture. now, i know i'm getting bigger, but after tyler took this one and i looked at it, went "holy crap!" cookin up twins is some serious business. (at my 20 week appointment i was measuring 24 weeks...we'll have to see how the trend continues.) my belly is starting to get in the way at work, so if you're a patient and you get kicked - i'm sorry! :)

two peas in a pod

...yes, that's what my twinners are, but they're not the subject of this post. tyler and i are!

a few weeks ago, at sunday dinner, my brother-in-law paul mentioned how it drives him nuts that my sister-in-law andi (his wife) leaves drawers open all the time. in her defense, she may have inherited this from her dad, who is famous for leaving the fridge door open.

in any case, i thought to myself, "hmm...i wonder how the drawers in my house are lookin'?" i came home and found my dresser like this:

and tyler's dresser like this:

chalk this up as another reason why tyler and i are so good together. hahaha.

the countdown begins

now that i am officially halfway through my pregnancy, i decided to put a countdown on my blog. doing it before now seemed daunting. that's a lot of days to sit and watch go by. but now it's all downhill from here - the number of days i have left being pregnant are less than the ones i've already been pregnant. sweet!

ps - i think it's cool i could put twins in the countdown ticker!

it's a...

BOY!

and a...GIRL!

and that's what almost everyone guessed in the poll! crazy. y'all are so smart. :)

tyler and i are so stoked to be getting one of each. we've begun the baby-name-hunting process, which is looking like it will be harder than we thought.

with this boy, the jeffs name will be carried on. which, to this point, hasn't happened yet. and these two will the be the first weidmer grandchildren/great-grandchildren (aside from Brynnley). carrying on the weidmer name from my family is left up to kevin. can you say pressure? just kiddin'.

and i know, i know, i need to start the belly pictures. i now look pregnant and not fat, so i'll work on it. maybe i'll take one today before church and post it later. (we have church at 2:30pm now - gag).

go team BLUE and team PINK!

whole different ball game

i knew that having twins meant that i was going to get huge.

never did i image it would happen THIS quickly. my pants are already not fitting!

and i'm only 12 weeks!!

in fact, i'm positive i'm already bigger NOW than i was when i delivered brynnley at 21 weeks. i think that goes to show how small she was and how much room twins take.

tyler and i headed over to target last night to remedy the situation. i bought one of the famed "belly bands" for pregnant people. i still fit into most of my pants/skirts, but the belly band will make them much more comfortable. i was looking at the size chart on the back of the box when i realized "wow, i really am in a whole different ball game having twins."

let me direct you to the sizing chart:
translation: i will be huge.

:)

(and don't forget to read my other new post from today below...)

get your fill

...because the ultrasound tech said this is probably the last time we'll get both twins in one image. i guess i hadn't really thought that they wouldn't fit together in one picture, but now that we're all getting bigger, they won't. makes sense.

this image is from my appointment with the perinatologist at UVRMC - who I really, really liked. the babes are still doing well. one is actually about 5 days ahead of the other, due-date wise, but even the smallest one is ahead of my due date. i'm starting to think i'm cookin' up 8 pound twins here.

i guess it's good news that the babies are fraternal (not identical) and each have their own sac and placenta. it gives them a better chance of growing without the one stealing nutrients from the other. (they're learning to share already. how cute.) we go back to the perinatologist after labor day to see how they're doing, AND we get to find out the genders! we're SO excited!

that was about the extent of the appointment. everything is fine thus far and i get to continue all of my medications. one of the babies performed for us by doing a flip during the ultrasound. it was pretty cool. maybe that one will be the gymnast.

i'll leave you with a close-up of each:

more posts to come...i have the highly requested "belly pictures," but i'm still self-conscious about posting them. i'll get to it soon enough.

god sure has a sense of humor

i keep telling people that.

it's SO true! and i LOVE it. it makes me smile. and happy cry. :)

tyler and i lost our first little girl back in december and little more than 6 months later, i'm pregnant again - with TWINS, mind you. we were not pursuing any kind of fertility treatment and twins don't run on my side of the family (the side genetically-linked twins come from). this pregnancy is, quite literally, a miracle.

now, in all fairness, tyler's grandmother is a twin. in fact, i believe her mom had two sets of twins. but WOW. TWINS?! i am going to be up to my eyeballs in diapers and formula. the ultrasound tech who did the ultrasound (and has twins of her own) told me that the first year is quite literally a blur.

holy. cow.

the tech also told us that they are not identical. because they each have their own sac (and subsequently their own placenta), they are not identical, but fraternal. i guess identical twins would be in the same sac. interesting, huh? who knew. i sure didn't. but that means i could have one boy and one girl. or two of one or the other. the odds of certain combinations are actually rather funny: 75% chance that one will be a boy, 75% chance that one will be a girl, 25% chance that it will be two boys OR two girls, and 50% chance that it will be one boy and one girl. don't worry - we'll be starting a betting pool soon enough. ;)

this time around, my doctors have me on lovenox (a blood thinner) and baby aspirin in hopes of prevent any complications with this pregnancy. and with double buns bakin' in the oven? you bet i'm more sick this time. lucky me, though, i still haven't tossed my cookies (maybe thanks to zofran). *knock on wood* i'm always tired, but that's not new. and i've gotten bigger faster - which leads me to my next point.

WHERE are these babies going to FIT? i'm crossing my fingers for relatively small but healthy babies. no 8 pounds each, please. that would be awful.

my "official" 40-week due date is february 25 (of which both babies are measuring on time), but with any luck they'll come between 34-38 weeks. i would be lying if i said i wasn't TOTALLY EXCITED with the thought that i don't have to go the full 40 weeks.

lastly, THANK YOU so much to all of your thoughts and love and support!! please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we embark on this double-trouble adventure...

(love these onesies - SO funny!! thanks, karen, for the laugh!)

if you could hie

seeing as tyler and i are so incredibly righteous (insert laugh here), we've been to both kolob and the city of enoch. that's the beauty of living in utah. unfortunately, i don't have any pictures of us in the city of enoch, but i'll remedy that next time we drive past it. i do, however, have pictures of kolob (canyon).

tyler and i stopped by kolob canyon on our way back from st. george (see previous post). we'd been meaning to go there for a while, and finally we did. it was absolutely worth it! kolob canyon (part of zion national park) is beeeeeeeeeautiful. see for yourself.

this last picture is supposed to be capturing some part of the grand canyon (like the western rim or something of that nature). i think it's crazy you can see far enough to see the grand canyon from that spot!

the drive to kolob canyon is only 5 miles, so i highly recommend it to anyone traveling on i15 in southern utah. (keep in mind that because it is part of zion national park, you have to pay to go in. but that's okay! make the extra drive to see the main part of zion. it's worth it.)

:)
