button, button, who's got a button?

we here around the jeffs household like circles. and dots. and holes. i'm certain i've mentioned this before, but that's okay. it's still fun. austin and reagan love scooting around the house, finding circles/dots/holes to touch and put their fingers in.

the other day, austin found a new hole to put his finger in.

he he he. :)

baking experiment

...gone wrong. :)

i have holiday-theme shaped sugar cookie pans, like so:

i used this particular halloween one to make cookies for my visiting teachees back in october, but i didn't use sugar cookie dough. instead, i used chocolate chip cookie dough. needless to say, it didn't quite work as well.

i gave up after one pan and started making regular chocolate chip cookies. but it was worth a shot, right? maybe i'll learn from my mistake and use this pan:

the right way.

scooter #2

reagan has finally joined austin in his scooting adventures. today they scooted all over the front two rooms together. it was pretty stinkin' cute.

i think it's fun to see how they scoot differently. puts into perspective how different babies are - even brothers and sisters. austin still uses the one arm/one hand scooting technique, while reagan likes to use both arms.

like father, like son

"i don't need a nap," tyler claimed on thanksgiving. "i'm just resting my eyes," said his dad. ha.

ya know who didn't get a nap? ME. :P

the perks of having twins

tyler suggested i share with all of you the many perks of having twins. i thought it was a great idea, especially since i sometimes linger on the harder aspects of having twins and being a mom, in general. having twins is fun and adventurous, and i would do it all again, minus the NICU. in fact, i'd love to do it again, armed with the knowledge that i now have! :)

the first perk of having twins: you get to hold two babies at once.

...though apparently i don't do it much (or we're lousy at documenting it), which is actually not a surprise to me. i rarely hold them at the same time when i'm home alone. it was hard when they were little because they were fragile, for lack of a better word, and it's hard now because they're getting stinkin' heavy - and squirmy. plus, when i pick both of them up, austin decides to turn into a limp green bean, which is awesome. reagan at least helps hold herself somewhat.

(and i'm not joking about the heavy thing. austin is 9 months adjusted, almost 11 months actual age, and he weighs in at over 20 1/2 pounds. i can't wait to see what he weighs at his adjusted 12 months. reagan isn't quite that heavy, but measures in at over 17 1/2 pounds. put the two together and that's 38 pounds of baby-ness going on.)

:)

strong little gal

reagan thinks she's strong. she's tried a few times to pick up my weights, but to no avail. it is really cute to watch her try, though. she musters all her strength and pulls with all her might!

while she may not be physically strong (yet), she has one mean grip. she could literally hold on to something for dear life. i sometimes have a hard time prying things from her grip - and i'm an adult!

reagan is also VERY strong-willed and strong in personality. take something away from her that she was playing with and be prepared for the consequences...

a new christmas tradition

my sister-in-law's sister-in-law has a christmas tradition that i think is fantastic! instead of opening christmas jammies on christmas eve, her family opens their christmas jammies on thanksgiving night. that way, they can wear their christmas jammies all throughout december, in anticipation of christmas. brilliant, i tell you! brilliant!

as you can see, i like this idea, so i decided to make it a tradition in our family. austin and reagan opened their jammies on thanksgiving night. rather, i opened their jammies for them, but it was fun all the same. (reagan's has a reindeer on it...it's hard to see in the picture.)

we're SO EXCITED for christmas!!

(i may tweak this idea a little in the future. a fun idea i just thought of: maybe put christmas jammies under the tree the first night it is up and decorated. you could pretend that santa's elves dropped them off in celebration of the tree being ready for santa to come, or something like that.)

um, ok

reagan is such an oddball.

we're trying to work on scooting and sitting on hands and knees. she's finally starting to show some promise in the scooting department - she gave the smallest of scoots today, much to my surprise. and, of course, we couldn't ever get her to do it again.

as for hands and knees...we have some work to do.

when we try to put her down onto her hands and knees, this is what she does. when she did this today i laughed for 10 minutes straight. oh my. she just sat there, in that position, and smiled. even looking at these pictures makes me laugh.

hopefully she doesn't chose to crawl like that...

happy thanksgiving!

we hope you're happy and fat from thanksgiving food, just like we are. :)

finally!

remember how i told you i'd keep an eye out for austin using reagan's binky? i FINALLY found him sucking on it (of his own free will and choice) and snapped some pictures for you. the little guy is funny - he'd rather play with her binky than suck on it, so finding him sucking on it was rare, indeed.

now these pictures are...slightly contrived. reagan was sucking on austin's and austin was playing with reagan's, so i sped the process up and stuck reagan's in austin's mouth.

funny babies.

beauty tips

right, i know. me, giving out beauty tips? it's an oxymoron. :)

but i do have some ... tips that i love that i want to share with you! and calling them health tips, or pretty tips, or sexy tips just seemed weird. so we'll stick with beauty tips.

my very favorite tip i learned at a mary kay party that my good friend threw a while ago. she suggested we shave with an exfoliating scrub. i tried it and i'm a believer. i love it! it helps to remove the top, dead layer of skin cells so that your blade cuts closer. brilliant! i use an exfoliating scrub where ever i need to shave. for fun, i bought some yummy-scented scrubs at bath and body works and the lotion to match, so now i don't smell so much like baby. i've even matched my scents to the season. i'm currently using honey autumn apple, and it is divine.

another favorite of mine is dry shampoo. but here's the thing - if you're blond, or have lighter-colored hair - baby powder works well, too. my sister and i used baby powder in our hair before dry shampoo because a craze. i personally prefer the smell of baby powder over the dry shampoo that i have, but maybe not all dry shampoos smell. baby powder is also cheaper, but it's harder to put in your hair evenly. i may or may not have accidentally put too much baby powder in my hair a time or two. (and if you have dark hair, baby powder can work for you. my sister's hair is very dark. she found that if she put the baby powder in before bed and slept on it, it was hardly noticeable in the morning.) whichever you choose, both are great options for lengthening your time between washes (and, at least for me, straightenings).

my next favorite beauty tip i learned from a magazine. it seemed so duh! when i read it, but i had never thought to do it myself. the magazine recommended washing your face (in the shower) after you've shampooed and conditioned. doing so will help reduce break-outs along your hairline. i started doing it and poof - the acne around my hairline decreased. such an easy thing to do!

so there you have it. a few of my favorite beauty tips. now share yours with me!! :)

sneaky sneaky

now that a certain someone knows how to scoot, he's been checking out the house, getting himself stuck in places as he explores.

the other day, i was using the computer when i heard a noise behind me. it startled me, especially since i knew the kids were in the living room playing. or so i thought. i turned around to find austin sneaking around between our chair and our dvd collection. boy, did he have fun!

as you can guess, he got into this predicament but couldn't get out, so (of course!) i helped him. this funny little boy is learning that there's life outside the front two rooms of our house, were we spend most of our time. if only we could get his sister to start scooting, too. any tips?

sigh...i suppose i better start baby-proofing in earnest.

headbutt and another heebie geebie

step one

step two

oh, my kiddies...are so not gentle. in another heebie geebie moment for you, today i watched reagan (who was sitting) grab at austin's eye (who was laying down next to her). doesn't seem too bad, does it? well, i'm not done. as she grabbed, she managed to scratch his eyeball with her fingernail, hook her finger underneath his upper eyelid, and pull up. major ouchie. austin's eye survived, miraculously, but i won't be surprised if an eye infections shows up.

fun times in the jeffs' household!! :)

mommy's little flosser

so, watching him do this actually gave me the heebie geebies, but i thought it was funny all the same. makes a mommy hygienist proud. :)

(no need to watch then entire 50 seconds. you get the idea within the first 15-20 seconds.)

we love windows

last month, austin and reagan discovered windows. oh my, what a joyful event for them!

we were hanging out on my bed* when i thought it would be good to let them practice kneeling, so i put them up against the windowsill. they LOVED it. i got some great pictures and some cute video, but i'm too lazy (aka tired) to convert it. maybe another day, my friends.

i'm kinda bummed because we switched rooms with the twins and moved furniture around, so now there are no windows with close furniture for the kids to play on. i guess i'll have to get creative so they can have some quality window time!

*the long story goes like this: we started napping austin and reagan in separate rooms so that they don't wake each other up before they're ready. austin sleeps in the front of the house in the pack'n'play and reagan sleeps in her crib in the back of the house. when reagan wakes up first, she and i have to stay in the back, otherwise she'd wake austin up. (because for some reason, she likes to screech when i bring her up front and austin's still sleeping. of course.) so she and i had fun with windows first, then when austin woke up he joined us.

this sleeping arrangement also means that i get to be quiet during both naps. it's not terrible - i'm learning what chores i can do without disturbing austin - but anything in the kitchen is off-limits, since he sleeps right next to the kitchen, in the study, and there's no door between the two.

oh, the things i do to keep my kids sleeping 'round these parts. :)

we love it when mom works!

i kid you not, i swear my kids are never happier than when i drop them off at grandma's house so i can go to work. the minute we take them out of their car seats and set them on the floor in the family room, they start smiling and waving their arms and laughing. and then grandma goes and gets her fun toys, which they LOVE. i guess the toys at home just don't compare. :)

grandma (tyler's mom) periodically sends me pictures of the kids while she's babysitting. it's fun to check my phone at work and find pictures of my kiddos waiting for me.

here they are for your viewing pleasure!

i'm 100% certain the reason there are more pictures of austin is because he doesn't SLEEP as well as his sister does. poor grandma. i feel bad when he (or she or both!) don't sleep well for her.

...so, actually, my kids get excited for pretty much anyone BUT me. tyler comes home, they're estatic! my mom comes over, they can't stop smiling! they go to grandma's when i work and they can't contain their excitement! i come home from work, it's like "oh...mom's home," and they continue doing what they were doing. since we spend almost every waking moment together, i guess it's not as exciting when i show up. hehehe.

let's save some dough!

seriously people...

i LOVE saving money. well, rather, i LOVE getting something for much cheaper than it's original cost (because really, when you're spending any money, you're not saving money). for example, today i got some christmas gifts (which shall remain unidentified for secrecy's sake) for $2.99 that are originally $19.99. who doesn't love that? and if i found out that anyone actually paid the full $19.99 for these items, i'd think they were crazy.

with black friday, cyber monday, and christmas coming, i thought i would share with you some of my favorite less-spending (aka saving) tips. with a little effort you can save a little money, and with a big effort sometimes you can save big!

you may have noticed that i have a blog list on the right-hand side titled "let's save some dough." use it! i've put some of my favorite less-spending websites and blogs there, so definitely check it out. that being said, i'll share with you my tippy-top favorites:

1) my favorite, by far, is freebies2deals.com. melea does a fantastic job searching for deals and sharing them with her readers. she also has a lot of clout with some companies and can get deals exclusively for her readers. plus, she does giveaways often, and wouldn't it be fun to win a giveaway? she also lets you know about other company's giveaways (for example, did you know that target is giving away twenty five $25 gift cards every day to facebook fans?) following her site is a must. i've gotten some really great deals because of her.

if you're serious about saving money this christmas, go read this post on freebies2deals right now:

http://freebies2deals.com/2012/11/how-to-get-the-best-black-friday-and-cyber-monday-deals.html

it's so easy and it could save you a lot of money in the long run! plus, with the internet at our fingertips, searching for prices to make your spreadsheet is a cinch. and, who knew that prices can be cheaper BEFORE or AFTER black friday/cyber monday?

2) i also love ebates.com. it is SO EASY to use. if you shop online, there is absolutely no reason not to use ebates. ebates is essentially a cash-back website. you get a certain percentage of your purchase (anywhere from 1% to 25%) back when you shop through ebates. they mail you checks every so often (i can't remember the exact schedule) if you have more than $5 in rebates. and, if you refer people, you get even more cash back. so...if you decide to use it, pretty please tell them i sent you! :)

to use ebates, you simply go to ebates.com, find the store you want to shop at, click on that store, and ebates takes you directly to that store's website for normal shopping. that's it! you shop like normal, make your purchase, and go on your way. ebates tracks your purchases and calculates your cash back for you. they send emails after your purchases, letting you know how much cash back you've earned.

* one of my favorite things to do with ebates is double-dip on cash-back, if you will. normally i wouldn't suggest using credit cards (tyler and i are HUGE dave ramsey followers), but if you are responsible and pay off the full balance each month, and stay within your budget for christmas, i see no problem with using a credit card. i double-dip by using my credit card WITH ebates. the result? double cash-back!! for example, tyler recently bought a new computer for work. i knew our credit card was giving a higher cash-back for best buy, so we decided to try and pick a computer there. we found a great computer that was on sale, purchased it using ebates, and got cash back from ebates AND our credit card company. plus, we signed up for the best buy rewards program and spent enough for a $10 gift certificate. we triple-dipped! quadruple-dipped if you count that the computer was on sale!!

* another great example of double-dipping would be using your "store" credit card and ebates. examples: using the target red card with ebates. using the kohl's card with ebates. using the macy's card with ebates. so easy! why not?!

* and, of course, try to do your shopping when the store is having a sale. for example, i bought some things from bath and body works a few months ago. they were having a buy 3 get 3 free sale and i shopped through ebates, which gave me a percentage back. and do a little digging! sometimes, though not always, stores will have sales AND a code for free shipping.

3) always, always, always check retailmenot.com when shopping online. it's your one-stop shop for coupons to tons of stores. all you do is go to the site, search for the store you want, and see what kinds of coupons are available right now. there may not always be a coupon for you to use, but it doesn't hurt to look.

see? see how easy it is to save a little money, stretch your dollar a little farther?

now that i've shared with you some of my favorite money-saving tips, tell me yours. i'd love to save even more money!!

Again?!

I don't know what she was thinking, but Christine has again entrusted me (Tyler) with her blog post for the evening.  I reminded her of the ramblings from the last time I posted.  I also emphasized that another Tyler post could result in a decline in viewership and an overall reduction in the emotional well-being of the readers.  Nevertheless, here I am.

I'll draw your attention to a few blog posts ago (were I a blog expert this is where I would insert a link to that specific post...but...well, I'm merely a recreational blogger).  In this particular post Christine mentioned her love for this time of year.  I too love this time of year and in celebration of my love for this time of year, enjoy the following video.

Not what you were expecting?  Well, that is my favorite youtube video of all time. But seriously, doesn't it just touch your heart that the cameraman can halt his laughter, even if for just a moment, and offer assistance to the rope-tow challenged individual.  May this serve as a reminder to all of us in this holiday season that although the world may be full of those lacking in the common sense department, they still are people,  and as such deserve our charity.  So when you are stuck behind someone with 15 items in the lane clearly marked "10 items or less," or an ignorant motorist is is going 60 in the left hand lane, don't curse, or muffle under your breath at their stupidity, but remember our valiant cameraman, and simply ask "are you alright sir?"

I'll make you a deal, comment with a link to your favorite youtube video, and if more than 2 get posted I'll take a voluntary leave of absence from the blogosphere.

flashback monday

as always, i was looking through my pictures, trying to decide what to blog about, when i came across this bea-uuuuuu-ty.

oh, those were the days. wearing my head gear 24/7. to school, to church, to gymnastics, to bed. if i remember correctly, i only took it off to eat and brush my teeth.

one time, at gymnastics, a little girl asked her mom what was wrong with me. *sigh* after head gear came neck gear, which i had to wear at night only, so i probably don't have any pictures of it. i do distinctly remember that both were uncomfortable to wear at night. lol - ya think?!

fortunately, for those of the younger generation, most orthodontists don't use this method any more. thank your lucky stars!

i believe this picture was taken in 5th grade, which means it's almost 20 years old. holy. moly. but how many of my older (older as in long-time) friends remember my head gear?! how could you not? i chose a hot pink bar and a camo head strap. (my head gear strap was just plain black.) to this day, i still have no idea why i picked that combination.

not that a different combination would have made it look any better! hahaha!

:)

sunshade

last saturday, one of our nieces was baptized. i got reagan all dressed up for the event. i even put a bow on her. lol. i don't do this very often (mostly because we spend most days at home and she ends up pulling them off anyway), so you can see how a bow is a big deal.

as we drove home from the baptism, tyler told me to turn around and look at reagan.

we both thought she had fallen asleep like this, but when i pulled the headband/bow off her face, she looked right up at me, wide-eyed. silly girl! she hadn't whined or let out even a little peep to tell us she didn't like the situation. now i'm starting to wonder if she did this on purpose so that she could get the sun out of her eyes. the bow looks like it did a pretty good job of blocking the sun!

:)

bye bye fall

these pictures:

were taken just last week. last night, we got 5-6 inches of snow. holy moly. i guess fall is leaving us! but that's okay, because i decided i like snow more now. why, you ask? well...i don't have to go out in it! no more driving to work early in the morning with snow everywhere. i just get to look at it in all it's prettiness. one of the many perks of being a stay-at-home-mom-of-young-children. :)

(sorry about the second picture, not sure why it's sideways. it's not sideways on my computer. you'll have to turn your head, i suppose. silly blogger.)

that being said, however, i would be lying if i said i didn't start playing christmas music the instant it started snowing. it just seemed so...appropriate! plus, austin thought i was pretty dang funny singing and dancing to christmas songs. i really don't think i've ever seen him laugh harder. thanks, bud.

i didn't take any pictures of the kids out in the snow, and i wish i had. we took them out shopping friday night, though, and austin looked at me like "what on earth are you doing to me?" while i carried him through the falling snow. i don't think he knew what to think of it! oh, you just wait until i plop you in it to take pictures...

cousins!

austin and reagan have lots of cousins, but this cousin, curtis, is special...because he was born on my birthday! the best day ever to have a birthday, if you ask me. :)

just a few months later, another cousin was born on curtis' mom's birthday. that's how you know a family is getting big: when you have to start sharing birthdays!

austin and reagan got to meet curtis a few days after he came home. now he's almost 3 months old!

and since i like dissecting pictures:

1) see what austin's doing with his big toe on his right foot? he does that all the time! funny funny. and for all you weidmers out there, he totally has weidmer toes. reagan, on the other hand, has tyler's toes. but i don't think tyler's toes are "jeffs" toes.
2) austin and reagan were even smaller than curtis when they were born. duh, i know, but it really puts into perspective how little they were and how big they are now!
3) tyler has labeled austin's smile as a "grandpa dayle" smile. a grandpa dayle smile = wide smile with no teeth showing. almost a smirk, if you will. (grandpa dayle is tyler's grandpa, so the twins' great-grandpa.)

Thursday, November 8, 2012

twinner winner

austin and reagan have matching onesies (i suppose that's what happens when you buy the majority of your children's clothes from the same store), and i purposefully put them on so i could take pictures! i thought i needed to do it and document it at least once.

plus, these tennis-ball-green-and-white striped onesies remind me that yes, mommy loves you, and yes, you're mommy's sweetheart, even though you drive mommy bonkers at times. (i have to laugh out loud at the sayings they put on kid's clothes. sometimes quite ridiculous.)

as always, it was hard to get them to look at me and smile and not move all at the same time. :)
