yup. you read that right: tyler has braces!
(but he won't let me take a picture. you'll just have to take my word for it. maybe i'll try and sneak one in when he least expects it.)
long story short, tyler has a jaw problem we're trying to fix with braces. we are so lucky - he doesn't need a super-duper expensive surgery to correct the problem (at least we don't think so at this point). we are doubly lucky because my friend angie's dad is doing them for us! shout-out to dr. graf!
tyler's lucky because he only has to wear the braces for 10 months. plenty of time to wear them, get everything fixed, and look great for graduation and his first job!
and, if everything goes according to plan, hopefully i'll be getting braces sometime after he's done. we'll see!

before vegas, there was a dental convention
this year, a bunch of us girls from work stayed overnight in between the sessions of the dental convention (held in slc). it was really fun to spend so much time with them! i learned a lot about them and from them...
;)
team luncheon. i meant to take more pictures, but then the speaker started. after the speaker was done, we were all more than ready to leave!

browsing the convention floor. we met up with nevi, our favorite close relative to montana jack.

after the first day of convention, the group of us that stayed overnight had dinner at market street grille. yum!

after dinner, we did what every group of girls does...we sat around the hot tub at our hotel and talked about dave ramsey. we love being so nerdy and free-spirited.
i wish i had more pictures, but i didn't pull my camera out any more. i'll have to be sure to take more next year!! love these girls.

vegas
tyler and i went to vegas for the final game of the MWC basketball tournament. (his parents and grandparents went for the entire thing, lucky duckies.) as it turns out, we missed the really good BYU game on thursday night, but it was still fun to be in vegas and watch the cougars play at the thomas & mack center.
maybe it's because we were in vegas the day of the final, but there were BYU fans everywhere. it was really cool. i'm sure i totally embarrassed tyler's family when i shouted "go BYU!" every time we saw some cougar fans. :)
of course we had to don our jimmer shirts. we have since purchased more. :) what can i say? we love jimmer! i even named my march madness bracket HOTforJIMMER.

the view from our seats, which were on the VERY last row. no complaining - at least we were there! and they really weren't that bad. the camera doesn't give our seats justice.

tyler's parents were across the way from us. i zoomed in with our camera and got a picture of them.

waiting for the game to start. we saw the end of the women's final. utah won. blah.

tyler told me to open my eyes bigger for the next picture, so i did.

outside after the game. it was sooooooooooooooo nice and warm in st. george/vegas!

although it was super sad we lost that night, i don't care anymore. the game against gonzaga last night was AWESOME!
go cougs!!

MFM again
tyler and i met with an MFM (again) last week for a consultation to see what we need to do (or not do) before we try to get pregnant again. this MFM was a different one than we'd met with before. my mom is a mother/baby nurse at IMC and one of the ob-gyns who practices there told her that this MFM, whose name is dr. branch, specializes in the study of things like anticardiolipins, which is my blood test that came back high.
he didn't have any answers for us as to why we lost brynnley, but i didn't expect him to. in fact, he reiterated that we may never know the cause of her death. that's not uncommon, though. most of the time a cause is never pinpointed. he did, however, tell us that we're at an increased risk of this happening again. tyler and i knew that this was a possibility, but this specialist made it sound like it's a lot more likely to happen than my ob-gyn did.
another interesting note: he explained that timing of my fetal demise (about 21 weeks) is the least common time to have a stillbirth. i guess this goes without saying. you could probably figure this out yourself by taking to women who have miscarried. most miscarriages occur between 8-10 weeks. the next most common time period is 10-14 weeks or so, and the least common time period is from 17-20 weeks or so. it's funny to look back on my pregnancy because i figured once i got past the first trimester (and the big miscarriage scare), my pregnancy would go just fine.
we reviewed my records and our family histories, and then he recommended additional tests to see if we can find solutions to work with (not necessarily answers, but clues that will help us in the future). my anticardiolipin antibody levels weren't actually that high, so we're screening for those again. he also ordered blood tests for lupus anticoaulant and anti-beta-2 glycoprotein 1 antibody. (if you're impressed that i know that, don't be. i have a paper where he circled the tests to be done. :) and yes, you read it right. lupus. i don't exactly know the link, but i do know that somehow, these phospholipids (anticardiolipins) are tied to lupus...awesome. let's hope i don't have that. and the doctor told me that for my sake, he hopes that i don't have high levels of anticardiolipin antibodies. he explained it's sometimes difficult to deal with.
dr. branch also ordered a sonohystogram. he wants to check for malformations (such as a septum) in my uterus. (the nurse helping the dr. told me i should count my blessings that i don't have to have a endometrial biopsy. consider them counted!)
i had my blood drawn that day but haven't heard the results of those tests. i don't expect i will until i go back for another visit. i haven't had the sonohystogram done yet because i have to wait for a very specific point in my cycle to have it done.
i'm very curious to see what these tests tell us and i'm sure you are too! we'll keep you updated.

i promise an update is coming soon. i have a few things to blog about, you lucky readers, you.
in the meantime, i've pulled an i-washed-my-cell-phone-in-the-laundry sort of blog problem...i accidentally deleted the lists of blogs i read! don't ask me how, but i did manage to delete the ENTIRE list. i've tried to remember all of them, but i'm afraid i've failed. (if you feel comfortable) please leave your blog address for me as a comment so i know i've got it! or you can email me with it at wilke.way [at] gmail.
thanks!!
